How to break off asparagus ends
We always recommend breaking off the asparagus ends instead of cutting because each asparagus spear will have a different woody end length. Breaking them will ensure you don't cut off too much and aren't left with too much of that tough end.
Here is how to break them:
- Take one asparagus spear in two hands as seen above and slowly move up the end until you find the place where it starts to bend easily.
- Give slight pressure on each thumb until the asparagus end easily snaps off. Discard the woody end.
Instructions for oven roasted asparagus with garlic
- Place prepped asparagus on a parchment-lined baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil and all the spices. Toss the asparagus well to ensure that all spears are covered, and then spread them back out on the baking sheet.
- Bake at 425° for 10 - 15 minutes, checking for desired doneness. If you have thick asparagus, it could take up to 20 minutes. Enjoy!
Hint: Don't skip the parchment paper or silpat mat! This will make sure your roasted asparagus appetizer doesn't get stuck on the baking sheet.
Substitutions and Variations
