    1. In the morning, preheat oven to 350°. Bake the casserole uncovered for 45 minutes until the center is set and the edges are slightly golden. Let stand a few minutes before serving.

Hint: Use freshly shredded cheese instead of pre-shredded because it will melt better. Preshredded cheese has anti-caking agents added to keep the cheese from clumping in the bag, but that also means it doesn't melt as well.

    Substitutions

    • Bacon Egg Casserole - If you prefer only bacon, substitute the sausage with the same amount of bacon.
    • Sausage & Egg Casserole - If you prefer only sausage, substitute the bacon with the same amount of sausage.
    • Mild Pork Ground Sausage - You can substitute it with chicken sausage or for a spicy kick, get a spicy ground sausage.
    • Milk - Use your favorite milk of choice.
    • Dry Mustard - If you don't have it, you can omit it. It definitely adds some good flavor though.
    • Cheddar Cheese - Switch up the flavors by substituting other cheeses like Colby jack, swiss, or pepper jack cheese. Freshly shredded cheese is preferred though as it melts best.
