    1. Combine all ingredients with a spatula in a medium bowl because the dough will be sticky.
    2. Divide into lined muffin tins and bake at 450° for 12 - 15 minutes in the middle or lower rack.

Hint: For rounded and symmetrical rolls, use a cookie scoop when placing them into the muffin tins.

Substitutions or Variations for this Mayonnaise Biscuit Recipe

    • Self-Rising Flour - If you are out of self-rising flour, substitute it with 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1.5 teaspoons of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Be sure to combine before adding your wet ingredients.
    • Sugar - You can omit it if desired.
    • Additions - We haven't tried adding anything to these rolls, but we think herbs or cheese would be delicious!

    Equipment

Whether we are baking muffins, biscuits, or dinner rolls in our muffin tin, we always like to use Silicone Muffin Tin Liners.

To get the uniform shape and size of these biscuits, we love using a Cookie Scoop.

    Top tip

Don't bake these biscuits on the highest oven rack as they can brown quickly. Be sure to watch towards the end of the cooking time to ensure lightly golden tops.

    Storage

While these mayonnaise rolls are best enjoyed fresh from the oven, here are our top storage tips:

    • Storage - Store your mayonnaise biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for 1 - 2 days or 1 week in the fridge.
    • Freezing - Wait for your biscuits to fully cool (to avoid excess moisture), then tightly wrap each in foil or freezer wrap and store in a freezer bag for 2-3 months.
    • Reheating - Heat in the microwave wrapped in a damp paper towel or in the oven at 350° for 15 minutes or until warm. If you notice the tops browning, place a piece of tin foil over the top.

    Mayonnaise Biscuits FAQ

What kind of flour is best for biscuits?

In most biscuits, you want white flour for a perfect fluffy biscuit. In these easy biscuits with mayonnaise, you need self-rising flour because there are no other raising agents in the recipe.

Can I add herbs to my biscuits?

You definitely can! I haven't tested exact quantities for this recipe, but measure with your heart and let me know if you try it.

Why put mayonnaise in dinner rolls?

Mayonnaise can be used as a dairy and egg substitute in baked goods. This substitution became popular during the Great Depression when eggs and dairy were hard to find and it leads to a moist and rich roll, biscuit, or even cake.

What to Serve with Mayonnaise Rolls

These are some of my favorite dishes to serve with this mayonnaise biscuit recipe:

    • A large white bowl of ground beef and spinach pasta topped with shredded parmesan cheese with more bowls of the pasta and cheese on the side.

    • A hand pulling a hawaiian rolls burger slider away from the other sliders with a bowl of smash burger sauce in the background.
